This book recounts an important chapter in the life of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal: the severe trial he endured for adhering to the teachings of Ahl as-Sunnah and rejecting the Mu'tazilite doctrine. The accounts are provided by his son, Salih Abu al-Fadl, and are based on a meticulously edited manuscript with valuable additions from Sunni works.

Nuʿaym b. Ḥammād reported:
It was once said to ʿAbdullah b. al-Mubārak:
“O Abū ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān, you often sit alone at home.”
He replied:
“Am I alone? I am with the Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – and with his companions.”

This refers to the reading of the Hadiths.
