Information about the book

al-Ibānah as-Sughrā by Imām Ibn Baṭṭah al-ʿUkbarī (d. 387 هـ) is one of the important classic works on the presentation of the ʿAqīdah of the Salaf. Ibn Baṭṭah composed this book as a concise summary of the fundamental principles of Ahl as-Sunnah wa-l-Jamāʿah, in which he supports the doctrine with clear texts from the Qurʾān, Sunnah, and the statements of the early scholars.

The work addresses central topics such as belief in Allah and His attributes, the affirmation of what Allah has affirmed for Himself and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for Him, without Ta'wil, Tahrif, or Ta'til, belief in the angels, the books, the messengers, the Day of Judgment, and the doctrine of Qadar. Ibn Battah also elucidates the Sunnah's stance towards the Companions (Sahaba), the Imams of the Muslims, and dissenting groups.

Al-Ibānah as-Sughrā is shorter and more concise than his longer work al-Ibānah al-Kubrā, but conveys the same core message: a clear exposition of authentic Salafist ʿAqīdah. Due to its structure and evidence, the book remains an important reference work for scholars and students who wish to study the original doctrine of the early generations.

Nuʿaym b. Ḥammād reported:
It was once said to ʿAbdullah b. al-Mubārak:
“O Abū ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān, you often sit alone at home.”
He replied:
“Am I alone? I am with the Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – and with his companions.”

This refers to the reading of the Hadiths.

Narrated by Ibn ʿAsākir in Tārīḫ Dimašq, Volume 32, page 458.
